10 Days Uganda Rwanda Congo Safari

Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe

Upon landing at Entebbe International Airport, you’ll be greeted by your Safari guide from Primate Safari Experiences. Afterward, check in and unwind at the luxurious Protea Hotel by Marriott, located on the picturesque shores of Lake Victoria in Entebbe.

Day 2: Journey to Kibale Forest National Park

After breakfast, you'll embark on a 6-hour drive to Kibale Forest National Park, home to over 13 primate species in Uganda. Departing from Entebbe at 6:00 am, you'll enjoy lunch at the Primate Safari Lodge before heading out for chimpanzee tracking in the park with an experienced ranger. Dinner and overnight stay will be at Primate Lodge or Isunga Lodge.

Day 3: Chimpanzee Habituation Experience

Following breakfast, you’ll head to Kibale Forest National Park headquarters for a briefing on the chimpanzee habituation experience. This immersive activity starts at 6:00 am and continues until evening, providing an unparalleled opportunity to observe chimpanzees in their natural habitat. Be sure to bring a packed lunch, drinking water, and consider hiring a porter. Dinner and overnight stay will be at the same lodge as the previous night.

Day 4: Transfer to Bwindi Forest National Park

Enjoy a leisurely morning before driving to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, renowned for its mountain gorillas. The route includes a scenic pass through Queen Elizabeth National Park, famous for its tree-climbing lions. If time permits, your guide will stop to search for these majestic creatures. Lunch will be at Savannah Safari Lodge before arriving at Bwindi Forest National Park in the evening. Check-in at Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge or Rushaga Gorilla Camp.

Day 5: Gorilla Habituation Experience

After breakfast, you'll transfer to the Rushaga Sector for a briefing on the gorilla habituation experience. This activity involves a 4-hour trek, allowing you to spend extended time with the gorillas. Note that only 4 permits are available daily for this experience. Afterward, return to your lodge to relax and explore Lake Mutanda if time allows. Dinner and overnight stay will be at Gahinga Lodge in Mgahinga National Park.

Day 6: Gorilla Trekking in Mgahinga National Park

Following breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing on gorilla trekking in Mgahinga National Park. Enjoy a hike in search of mountain gorillas and spend an hour observing them in their natural environment. Unlike habituation, trekking allows for a 1-hour visit with a group of 8 people. After the trek, cross to Volcanoes National Park for dinner and overnight at Five Volcanoes Lodge.

Day 7: Golden Monkey Tracking in Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast, drive to Volcanoes National Park headquarters for a briefing on golden monkey tracking. These primates are found in the Virunga Mountains, shared by Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Enjoy tracking the golden monkeys, then return to your lodge for lunch. Later, proceed to Gisenyi town, located on the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo. Dinner and overnight at Lake Kivu Serena Hotel.

Day 8: Transfer to Goma (Virunga National Park)

Following breakfast, an experienced guide from the Democratic Republic of Congo will pick you up from Lake Kivu Serena Hotel and assist with the border crossing process. Prepare for an exciting hike up Nyiragongo Volcano. You’ll arrive at Kibumba Tented Camp for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 9: Nyiragongo Hike

After breakfast, transfer to Kibati Station for a briefing on the Nyiragongo hike, including details on the climb and resting points. Begin the hike, and spend the night at the Nyiragongo Summit Shelter.

Day 10: Descending Nyiragongo

After an early breakfast, descend Nyiragongo to Kibati Station, arriving by around 10:00 am. Depending on your departure point, transfer either to Goma International Airport or cross the border to Rwanda for a flight from Kigali International Airport back home.
