Rwanda is famous for its primates, including mountain gorillas, chimpanzees, and golden monkeys. If you're planning a safari in Rwanda, make sure to include these incredible animals. Primate Safari Experiences offers a unique 4-day gorilla trek in Volcanoes National Park, run by a local company specializing in primate tours.
This tour also includes a border crossing from Rwanda into southwestern Uganda, guided by experienced tour leaders
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali
When you arrive at Kigali International Airport, a guide from Primate Safari Experiences will pick you up. If time allows, you'll tour Kigali, known for being Africa's cleanest city, and visit the genocide memorials and national museums. In the evening, you'll transfer to Volcanoes National Park in northern Rwanda, home to the endangered mountain gorillas. You'll stay overnight at Five Volcanoes Rwanda on a full board basis.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park
After breakfast, you'll head to the park headquarters for a briefing on gorilla trekking rules. Then, you'll start your trek through the jungles and bamboo forests of Volcanoes National Park. The trek can take 3-6 hours, depending on the gorilla group's location. Once you find them, you'll spend one hour observing these magnificent creatures. Afterward, you'll return to the lodge for lunch and then cross the border into Uganda to reach Mgahinga National Park. You'll stay overnight at Gahinga Lodge.
Day 3: Golden Monkey Tracking in Mgahinga
After a good night's sleep at Gahinga Lodge, you'll head to the park headquarters for a briefing on golden monkey tracking rules. You'll then spend 2-4 hours tracking these rare primates in their natural habitat. After this adventure, you'll return to Gahinga Lodge for a relaxing evening. You'll stay overnight at Mount Gahinga Lodge.
Day 4: Departure to Kigali
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at the lodge. By 10:00 AM, you'll begin your drive back to Kigali, crossing the border back into Rwanda. If you missed any sightseeing in Kigali on the first day, you'll have time to do it in the evening before heading to the airport for your flight home.
